Heworth Golf Club The Heworth Golf Club was opened in June 1912 originally as a nine hole course and extended to eighteen holes in 1976.

The course now plays as a parkland course with tree-lined holes, excellent fairways and some of the best greens in the North East of England. It was not always like that - until fairly recently the course played and looked more like an inland links course with holes seperated by rough not trees, fast running fairways and large firm greens.

The course currently stands at a 6,498 yards par 71 (SSS 71) from the white tees, a 6,203 yards par 71 (SSS 69) from the yellow tees and a 5,643 yards par 73 (SSS 73) from the red tees. It is a good test of golf for all standards of golfer.

Mount Oswald Golf Club Mount Oswald can now boast one of the most appealing and mature courses in the area. The 18 hole parkland course, whilst not too long, 5991 yards to be exact, is popular with many seasoned golfers, yet is not too daunting for the less experienced.

There are no hills to climb but the undulative nature of some of the fairways may leave you with a demanding approach to the well manicured and receptive greens.

Seaham Golf Club The Seaham golf club is a stern challenge for any golfer, no matter how experienced or inexperienced they may be. With a cluster of natural hazards and several strategically positioned bunkers located around the greens to add difficulty to your approach shots, there is something to challenge everyone, and the task is made all the more demanding as a result of the strong, prevailing winds which blow across the course and drag many a ball away towards danger.

South Moor Golf Club The course starts gently enough and though the first seven holes are no pushover it is widely accepted that barring the long par 4 fourth, they present the course's best birdie opportunities. It is from the eighth tee onwards that one really begins to appreciate the course's design. The way MacKenzie uses the contours of the land can at times, from the tee, make the fairways look pencil thin. And yet, look back from the fairway and one wonders how anyone could miss such a generous target. No more is this evident than on the par 4 thirteenth. There is out of bounds to the right as well as heather, gorse and a stream on both sides and when played into the wind this tee shot is not for the faint of heart. If safely negotiated the player is rewarded with a short to mid iron to a huge green which presents a generous target.
